PEPES Seminar: Romain WACZIARG (UCLA)

Romain WACZIARG is Professor of Economics and the Hans Hufschmid Chair in Management at UCLA's Anderson School of Management. He is also a NBER Research Associate (Political Economy, International Finance and Macroeconomics programs).

Through his research he seeks to understand what explains economic performance and, in particular, what makes countries successful. Globalization, by reducing barriers to the flow of goods, capital, people and technology, especially, facilitates the spread of wealth. He is also interested in the causes and effects of the global spread of democracy: "is democracy a luxury good that only wealthy countries can afford, or does democracy promote prosperity? "

Romain WACZIARG will present a paper, joint with Klaus DESMET, at the next PEPES Seminar on the theme:

The Culture Divide (link to Abstract, PDF)
