*NEW* The Department of Economics extends the warmest of welcomes to four new faculty members this Fall


The Department is pleased to announce that four new permanent faculty members have joined Sciences Po this academic year. Congratulations to Michele FIORETTI, Junnan HE, Kerstin HOLZHEU and Marleen MARRA, Assistant Professors of Economics.


Michele FIORETTI comes to the Department from the University of Southern California (USC) where he defended his thesis this past year. Prior to his PhD, Michele FIORETTI acquired a MPA in Political Economy at the LSE and then a MA in Economics at USC. 

His research interests include :

  • Empirical Industrial Organization
  • Behavioral Economics
  • Applied Microeconomics

His research and scholarship have already received a number of awards and fellowships and notably the Award for the Best Applied Economics Paper by a Young Researcher at the 2018 Econometric Society Summer European Meeting (EEA-ESEM Cologne).

Junnan HE comes to the Department from the Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL) where he defended his thesis this past year
. He holds a BSc in Mathematical Economics and Mathematics from the Australian National University and a MA in Economics from WUSTL.

He works on model sparsity and variable selection as well as stochastic choice models. His primary research interests include : 

  • Econometrics
  • Decision Theory

His research has already been honoured with awards and fellowships, and notably his dissertaion which warranted him a Dissertation Fellowship from WUSTL in 2017 and the 'Best PhD SPEED Presentation' at the 20th OxMetrics User Conference in 2018.

Kerstin HOLZHEU comes to the Department after spending a year as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies. She is also an IZA Fellow. She defended her PhD in 2018 at the University of Chicago. She holds a MA & BA in Empirical Social Sciences and a MA in Applied Economics from the University of Stuttgard and Sciences Po Bordeaux (French-German Double Diploma in Social Sciences). And just prior to joining the University of Chicago she undertook a MSc in Macroeconomic Policy and Financial Markets from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (GSE).

Her research interests include :

  • Applied Macroeconomics
  • Labor Economics
  • Firm Dynamics

Her research and scholarship have already warranted her a number of awards and fellowships. She notably received the 2017 University of Chicago Data Award, a Schultz Endowment in 2016 and a CSWEP Fellowhip at the Federal Reserve Bank in New York.

Marleen MARRA comes to the Department from University College London (UCL) where she defended her thesis this past year. Prior to her PhD she undertook a MSc at Tilburg University and a MRes in Economics (with Distinction) at UCL. In 2016 she was selected for the Yale-UCL Collaborative Exchange Program and was a Visiting PhD student at Yale. And in 2018 she was a CeMMAP Scholar at the IFS.

Her research focuses on the structural analysis of auctions to learn about strategic behavior of firms and individuals in auction markets, with the aim to inform public policy. Her research fields include :

  • Empirical Industrial Organization
  • Structural Econometrics
  • Applied Microeconomics

Her work has already received recognition: she was awarded a number of scholarships throughout her doctoral studies as well as for her overseas institutional visit at Yale.
